Chairman’s Reserve: The UK Rum Club

Another day, another Chairman’s Reserve. I don’t mean that as a criticism; rather, I’m impressed with the number of releases from the distillery and their exceptional quality (albeit many, such as today’s, being selected by specific groups rather than the good folks based in St Lucia themselves).

This review is a bottling selected by Steven James and Wes Burgin for their Facebook group, The UK Rum Club. They were offered/whittled down the choices to 2 different casks and finally chose number 1731109 – a Vendome pot still output aged for 9 years in ex-bourbon before being decanted into a total of 248 bottles at a hefty 59.5% ABV.

Foursquare: 2007

Country: Barbados
Pot & Column Still Blend
Aging: 12 years, ex-bourbon casks
ABV: 59%
Bottled: March 2019
Outturn: 27,000

Another Foursquare review for you all. This is number 10 (X if you’re want to be all classical about it) in the Exceptional Cask Selection range. I’m all too aware that I’m late to the party. So much so that many of you will have had your first bottle, ordered a second (or third) and be deep into that with friends and family. All joking aside, this is so belated that the US has been able to try the 2008 for the last month – hopefully I’ll be a smidge more punctual when it reaches these shores.

Still, some (no one) might call me fashionably late (no they wouldn’t).

Saint Lucia Distillers: Chairman’s Reserve Forgotten Cask

My first ever St Lucian rum!

Up till now I’d been hopping from one random distillery or indie bottling to another but this blog, much like a new child in the family (I imagine), has forced me to sort my life out. But instead of perusing the nappy aisle at Tesco’s, bleary eyed at midnight with a magazine coupon in hand, I’m trawling the digital retailers, armed with whispers and suggestions from fellow rum enthusiasts, trying to organise my approach to rum buying.

Probably more bleary eyed as a result of it though.
